As a mom, it seems like your work is never done. Throughout the day you likely pick up toys, prepare meals, make sure clothes are washed and put away, and keep everything in the home organized and clean. Instead of tossing items in a drawer or stashing them in a closet, make use of some tips for organizing and making your work at home easier to manage.

Are you overwhelmed by clutter? Start small by implementing a few ideas at a time. The first tip if one of my favorite ways to decorate and keep our family organized.

Chalkboards

From chalk and whiteboards to simple fridge magnets, it can help to have a place to make lists and reminders for everyone in the house. Give it a decorative touch with a border that blends with the rest of the colors in the home. Place a chalkboard on the wall in the kitchen, washroom, and other areas where you might need to leave a message about an appointment, sporting event, or lists of chores you need done. When family members read the message, they can leave a short message saying they have read the details, or cross off when something gets done. This is also a great way for children to keep track of their homework assignments and daily tasks.

Important Documents

As a family and homeowner, there are probably tons of documents you need to keep track of, from family medical information, appliance warranties, and insurance papers, to memorable art projects the kids make. Instead of filing them in a drawer and forgetting about them, use boxes can be stored in a closet and reopened easily. Places like Quantum Storage provide tote shelving options in bulk that might help make your closet space neater. You can also make use of a large tote box so similar information is kept in the same area, but organized in one place.

Shower Organizers

The bathroom can become cluttered very quickly. A shower organizer has several uses, instead of simply keeping shampoo and conditioner in one place. Add an organizer in the shower for all of the bath toys that might be used, as well as razors or even cleaning supplies. Another organizer might be placed on a wall in the bathroom to store hair accessories, tools to style hair, electric clippers, and the other random items that don’t quite seem to fit in the medicine cabinet.

Bookcases

A bookcase doesn’t have to be used only for storing books. It is a way to keep decorations organized that don’t fit on a table, or games that children play on a regular basis. Label the shelves, especially if they are used in a child’s bedroom, so they know what items go on each shelf.

Organizing the home can be easy if you take a little time to think about what can be used in each room. Utilize some basic items, such as a shower organizer, for other items that would fit in the space. Maintain your organization by making sure others in the family know where everything is supposed to go and using clear labels.
