5 essentials for a fun and family-friendly super bowl party (1)

We know who will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl, and no matter which team you are rooting for, there is a good chance you’ll tune in.

The Super Bowl is a cultural phenomenon that people look forward to every year. In the professional sports world there is no other event that can compare. The big game attracts a wide variety of people, even those who don’t particularly hold an interest in football because we all know that it is a can’t miss event that will be talked about for days, if not weeks, after it is over.

Even though hearing the words ‘Super Bowl party’ makes you think of a group of men screaming at the T.V. while drinking and eating pizza and wings, that could not be further from the truth. The game is actually a family friendly event, and hosting your own party should be too.

Whether you have little kids or teenagers, it is possible to make your party and viewing of the big game family friendly and turn it into a true family bonding moment. Here are a few essentials to be sure you have for your family’s Super Bowl party:

     1. Cute and easy snacks

There is food that we think of as typical Super Bowl party food; mainly this is pizza, wings and chips and dip. If you want to stick to these game day staples, think ahead to what everyone at your party will enjoy.

First you want to make sure you’ve made and/or ordered enough for the amount of people who will be at your party. You do not want to be remembered as the host who ran out of food before halftime.

Make sure to also keep in mind the tastes of any younger children that will be at your party. Have some plain cheese pizzas for them in case they aren’t a fan of toppings. Instead of buffalo wings, have some plain boneless wings with dipping sauces, so it is easier for kids to eat and they can choose their own sauce. Also have some fun themed food kids will enjoy on hand for the event.

     2. A clear view

tv footballArguably the most important part of any Super Bowl party is having a quality T.V. to make you feel like you’re at the stadium. To avoid having to scramble to find a new place to tune in and either transport or have your food go to waste, make sure your T.V. is up to the job and that you have the correct channel or are able to stream it.

The last thing you want is for in the middle of a nail biting play is to lose the picture, and believe it or not T.V.’s can suddenly die. So if yours is a bit on the older side and has seen better days, it might be worth it to invest in a new one before the big game.

     3. Cozy seating

When it comes to a Super Bowl party, comfort is key. Remember, on average the game is almost four hours long. That’s a lot of time sitting in front of the T.V.

Whether it is just your family or if you have guests, you need to have a comfortable sofa to watch the game from. You want everyone there to be comfortable the entirety of the game, commercials and halftime show.

Take the amount of seating you have and the quality of your current sofa into consideration well before the party so you can come up with a solid game plan to make everyone in attendance happy and cozy.

     4. All day entertainment

The day of the big game is pretty long, with the pre-show starting in the afternoon and the actual game starting at 6:30 p.m. All of this makes for a long day for younger kids, especially with having them sit through most of the almost four hour long game.

If you have kids who may not yet be interested in anything the Super Bowl has to offer, it is important to have something for them to focus their attention on. One option is having party games for before and during the big game to keep kids entertained. This gives them something to do and allows you to pay attention to the game for a bit.

     5. Create a festive environment

No party is complete without decorations to get everyone excited and in the mood to celebrate, this includes the Super Bowl. If you are hosting a party, go for the extra point by getting into it as much as possible.

In addition to decorations, tell guests to represent their favorite team regardless of if they made it to the big game. To get even more in the football spirit, add eye black to complete the look. This will also engage any kids and make them feel like they’re playing dress up to make the day even more of an event for them.

Including kids into the fun of the Super Bowl allows for a new family tradition to be built and for bonding moments to happen. The big game is a huge event throughout the country, and even world, after all. Make yours a party for all ages with these five essentials!
