What to Wear When It’s Too Warm for a Coat: The Newbury Topper

If you live in the south, then you know all too well how unpredictable the winters can be. One day it’s in the 80s and the next morning you wake up to frost on the ground. There’s really no way to plan your outfits and you’ll often find yourself asking ‘do I need a coat today?

Use code JOY16 to get 40% off the Newbury Topper and other items on JJill.com today!

One way I’ve found to dress for days that are too warm for a coat, but too breezy for a cardigan are with toppers. I wore one a lot last year and just added a second one, which is new to the J. Jill line this year. It’s the Newbury topper and the colors are beautiful and perfect for this time of year.

I paired mine with a sleeveless linen tank because the day we shot these pictures was quite warm. You could also throw this over an all black outfit, like the model is wearing here, for a nice way to complete the outfit. The topper is quite long and is described as above knee length on their website. I’m 5′ 5″ and it’s definitely below my knees, but I still love it and get a lot of wear out of these in the fall and winter.

J. Jill has quite a few toppers, including several on sale from past seasons. You can check them all out here. One thing I like about investing in these toppers is if well taken care of, this is an item of clothing that I will use for years and years to come. It’s a classic style of cardigan that I feel is here to stay and isn’t trendy or something that will come and go.

I really love that topper! It is so spot-on chic and effortless. Looks great on you! My cousin will be working with them designing stuff in the new year. I can't wait to see more of what they do.

What a gorgeous fall/winter outfit! That sweater cardigan looks so cozy and I love the long length. When it's too warm for a coat, my go to is a long cardigan like this! I love the booties, too. www.styleinharmony.com
