Holiday Gift Idea for Kids: A Genesis Bow

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Genesis Bows. All opinions are 100% mine.

When our kids were younger, it was so easy to shop for them at Christmas time and for birthdays. They wanted one thing…toys. Now that our elementary years are behind us and we have an 18, 16 and 11 year old, gift buying has gotten a little trickier. The gifts they want are usually more expensive, or they have a hard time coming up with ideas.

Our 11 year old is past the toy stage, but still likes to receive gifts he can “play” with, especially outside. So when I had the opportunity to gift him a bow from Genesis Bows, I was all for it. (Keep scrolling down to see a video of the bow in action.) He came home from school to find two enormous boxes waiting for him – one with a target and one with a Genesis Bow inside. You can design any Genesis bow using the Genesis Build-a-Bow feature on their website. It’s incredibly easy to use and it was a lot of fun choosing colors for the different parts of the bow.

Here’s Aaron opening the target, which is almost as big as he is. (Imagine how cool these would look under the Christmas tree wrapped and with a big bow!) The target is thick, high quality and the perfect addition to gift along with the Genesis Bow. They need something to aim at after-all!

Next, he opened the bow – which also included a quiver, arrows and an arm guard. The thought of getting Aaron a bow as a gift never really crossed my mind, but after watching him (and his older brother) use it for a week, I can say this is one of the best gifts we’ve ever gotten him. There is something so thrilling for a kid to experience drawing back a bow, aiming at the target and then sending it flying off. After about four tries, he was hooked. Here’s a video of him using it for the first time. You can also check out Genesis Archery on YouTube.

There are so  many reasons why a gift like this is a good idea. For one, it gets them outdoors and experiencing this fast growing sport. Archery helps kids gain confidence, focus and discipline without them even knowing it. In fact, this sport is gaining popularity in schools through the National Archery in the Schools (NASP®) program. The Genesis Original is the official bow of this program and is used in over 13,000 schools by over 2 million youth across the U.S. annually. I asked Aaron what he liked about the bow and the sport itself and he said the bow is so easy to use, and he likes the sport because it challenges him. He’s been going outside every afternoon after school to work on his archery skills. It’s also gotten the rest of us outside to watch him and it’s been fun seeing him get excited when he gets that bulls eye, or oh so close.

Because of the draw length of 15″ to 30″, even my 16 year old son has been able to use it and is enjoying learning and developing some archery skills as well. Plus, because there’s no specific draw length, kids won’t outgrow the bow. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t like spending money on something they’ll outgrow in 6 months. We already have that problem when it comes to shoes and clothes, am I right?

This is the perfect bow to introduce kids to the sport of archery. The Genesis Original, Mini and Gen-X are all available in convenient kits and will make a really exciting gift for your kids this holiday.

Awesome. My oldest has been missing archery since we moved away from the town where she did 4H. I'd love to gift this to her.

I just tweeted but it wouldn't let me paste my tweet.. I tried many times.. But I really like this give away, Its funny because my son is 15 years old and just this past summer expressed interest in having a bow after he was invited to a birthday party where they were shooting bows, and playing horse shoes.. So I definitely would give this awesome gift to my son.. Thanks
