Can you smell that? Spring is in the air! And this season of budding growth brings along an array of aromas, from blooming flowers to vibrant citrus scents to potent herbs.

Walk outside of your door and you’ll be greeted with a burst of sunshine and most of those smells. Throw open your windows and allow the fresh air to blow into your home. Or, concoct a homemade room spray that smells like Spring. With just a few ingredients and less than five minutes of your time, you can customize a Spring room spray to match your favorite scents of the season.

Essential oils are the most potent form of an ingredient. It’s the distilled oil from the plant or flower, which can be used as a nice-smelling ingredient in a homemade room spray. Plus, they are nontoxic and all-natural, which means you can safely use them in your home.

Note: always consult your physician, pediatrician, and veterinarian before spraying essential oils in your home. Some may have adverse reactions to pets or small children. We are not medical professionals–we’re just Mamas trying to run a happy, healthy home, just like you!

Gather your supplies

If you’re as excited as me, you keep checking the forecast to see if Spring is on it’s way.

According to Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog weather consultant, it’s coming early this year. Nonetheless, I can spritz a dose of Spring in my home with one of these DIY room sprays.

Here’s what you’ll need to for this quick and good-smelling project:

  • 4 oz spray bottle. Try the dollar section of your Target or WalMart if you’re on a tight budget. But we suggest you use a glass bottle like this one.
  • 1 oz vodka or witch hazel, or 1 tsp baking soda. Don’t skip this ingredient! You remember middle school science class: water and oils do not mix. You must first mix your essential oils with either vodka, witch hazel, or baking soda, then combine with water.
  • 40 drops essential oils. See below for specific recipes and types of essential oils. Or create your own blend of Spring oils for your Spring room spray!

Okay, now that your supplies are ready, it’s time for the fun part! Let’s create some Spring room sprays!

Fruity Spring Room Spray

Citrus fruits are abundant in the Spring. Plus, citrus scents are rejuvenating and awakening, which is perfect for the transition from a sleepy Winter to an invigorated Spring! Mix and match your favorite scents like lemon, lime, grapefruit, and orange, or opt for just one scent. This Fruity Spring Room Spray is especially nice in the kitchen and bathroom.

  1. Combine the vodka, witch hazel, or baking soda with the essential oils first. Stir to combine. If using vodka or witch hazel, you can combine the ingredients by swirling them around in the spray bottle for a few seconds. If using baking soda, first combine in a small bowl, smashing the oils into the baking soda with the back of a spoon. Then pour the baking soda into the spray bottle.
  2. Fill the rest of the bottle with water. Stir to combine.
  3. Spray a few times in your room to add a fruity Spring scent!

Floral Spring Room Spray

All you have to do is look out your window to observe colorful blossoms of flowers. Pink roses, white daisies, purple hydrangeas, or orange zinnias. There’s a rainbow of color in the world! Inhale the refreshing and romantic scent of Spring flowers outside, and bring that same smell indoors with this floral Spring room spray. You’ll discover the classic floral smell of roses, a nice addition of geranium, and lavender pulls the entire collection together. This room spray is the best way to wake up in the morning with a spritz in the bedroom as you open the curtains to the sunshine.

Herbal Spring Room Spray

My mother always planted an herb garden, and I couldn’t help myself when I walked by–I had to stick my nose way down into the basil! Which is why I absolutely love this herbal Spring room spray. It combines rosemary with basil and eucalyptus for an irresistible room spray. This one is my favorite to spray in the living room at the end of the day or before we have guests over.
